JULY saw British Airways launch new

fl ights from London City Airport to Granada in Spain. Passengers on the inaugural fl ight, the only direct service between London and the home of the Alhambra Palace, were treated to a special performance of Flamenco music and dancing. The fl ights operate four times a week, year-round, with one-way fares starting from £85.

THIS JULY team ‘Round the Horn’ – aka Seasons In Africa and Africa Collection – joined the Travel

Trade Crusade. The mad dash through five European countries in three days is exclusively for travel industry folk to raise money for good causes – in Round the Horn’s case, Save the Rhino and Coco's Foundation. The team got extra fundraising points for completing the journey in a ‘shed’ (car valued at less than £500). 'Sybil', the supercharged safari wagon, took them from Calais to Amsterdam and followed the African theme with a lunch stop in the 'bush' (farmer’s field) and even some Big Five game viewing.

THE fi fth annual Association of

Women Travel Executives Chair’s Awards ceremony saw the Company Award go to Advantage Travel Centres for 'consistently providing equal opportunities whilst proactively supporting talented women'. The Business Impact Award for

innovation was presented to Jane Stuart- Palikira of Ionian Weddings, pictured with Chris Browne, and Barbro McAusland, Chair of AWTE.
