ast year Kelli Wynn (pictured above) from My Adventure Store voted in the Travel

Agents Choice Awards. Little did she imagine that by merely casting her choices she would land our main prize and, just a few short months on, would be enjoying a luxury safari holiday in South Africa with her mum. The malaria-free Shamwari Private Game Reserve is located in South Africa’s Eastern Cape, occupying almost 50,000 acres of land that is home to all of Africa's 'Big Five' – elephant, leopard, rhino, lion and buffalo – and more. Five-star accommodation comes in

the form of six lodges, each offering something slightly different. There's also the option of the Shamwari Explorer Camp. Kelli stayed in the luxurious tents of

Bayethe Lodge – with her own private plunge pool and outdoor shower. On her first game drive she spotted leopards, lions, elephants and a white rhino with its calf, and the rarer black rhino. Then it was time for a Shamwari sundowner – a crisp glass of white wine while watching the moon rise above the dramatic African landscape. Shamwari guests also have the

opportunity to take part in a volunteers' project. Kelli stayed in student

accommodation for the night and spent the day with a vet research team in the bush. This fascinating opportunity gives guests a behind-the-scenes insight into how the reserve is managed and how the animals are maintained.

They meet vets, the anti- poaching team and the Born Free staff.

TAKE IT FROM KELLI… “Everything on my trip ran like a well- oiled machine. Our transfer driver was informative and knowledgeable and our first safari began on the way to the lodge, as he pointed out animals and points of interest along the way! “On arrival we were met with a refreshing welcome drink and a warm smile from Penny, the manager. We were shown straight to lunch for a tongue- tingling king prawn Caesar salad and a wonderful strawberry pavlova. “Bayethe Lodge is really luxurious and

you could recommend it for any type of traveller, whether parents, couples or friends, as it appeals to all. The stunning Eagles Crag would be my first choice for a romantic getaway with my partner! “The volunteer project was so interesting. The accommodation was of a very high standard – twin-share and ensuite with a common room, internet and a really good quality of meals. We got to see an elephant darted and I found the vets really informative. I think it is excellent value for money and would

“This was one of the best stays I have ever had. Hand on heart, it is worth every
