JA Resorts & Hotels has opened
the JA Ocean View Hotel on the only seaside shopping promenade, The Walk, at Dubai Marina, with 338 suites over 25 fl oors and six signature restaurants. The group has seen a 4.7% increase in the UK market visiting the JA Jebel Ali Beach Hotel, while JA Palm Tree Court (part of the same complex) saw UK consumers nearly double in comparison with 2012. Rose Rayhaan is the latest of
Rotana’s properties to gain an exclusive Club Rotana, or ‘hotel within a hotel’. This is scheduled for completion in February 2014 with 60 Club Rotana rooms and eight deluxe suites, part of a hotel claimed to be the second tallest in the world. Opened last November, the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai, has 684 rooms and 120 suites over 72 fl oors. The Park Inn by Radisson is scheduled to open in 2016 in the Al Jadaf area, fi ve kms from Dubai’s international airport. Radisson currently operates fi ve hotels in Dubai including the Radisson Royal and Radisson Blu Hotel Dubai Media City. Others are at Deira, Downtown and the marina. Mövenpick is opening another
hotel in the autumn, Jumeirah Lakes Towers. In January, it became the fi rst international hotel company to operate a property in Al Mamzar, with the opening of The Square, which brings the total number of Mövenpick hotels in Dubai to six. Perhaps the most lavish
development is the new Dubai Floor at Raffl es Dubai, spread over 2,000 square metres and with panoramic city views. Once home to the hotel’s owner,
the fl oor includes six spacious rooms and suites, a spa and hair salon, three private kitchens and a cinema.
Tourism talk “Our short-term objective is to add 10,000 rooms by 2015 to the 600,000 we
have now, but as we plan to double the total number of visitors from 10 million a year to 20 million by 2020, a lot more work needs to be done including
projects in the desert and on land reclaimed from the sea. “Occupancy rates are running at 90%
so we need more capacity, but we will not double the market by 2020 just by building fi ve-star but budget and mid-range too. Encoragingly, the UK market recovered well last year, up 8% to about 700,000. “This year we are seeing double digit
