New gaming show for Asia ‘totally different’

he recent G2E Asia exhibition was rocked with news of a rival gaming show planned for the region, starting this November – but organiser Jay Chun says it will bot be a competitor, as it will have “a totally different concept

and different approach”.

Chun is chairman of the Macau Gaming Equipment Manufacturers Association, and is also Chairman of controversial casino equipment suppliers LT Game, who clashed with other exhibitors at G2E Asia 2012. It is thought that LT Game’s attendance at the show this year caused the withdrawal of at least one major exhibitor and concerns for many others over intellectual property issues and copyright law being applied regionally. The new event is to be held from November 14 to 16, at the Venetian Macau – the same location of the existing event, which is organised by Reed Exhibitions and the American Gaming Association. Chun told Business Daily: “I think there will be value in two shows. G2E Asia is a very professional show. Reed is a good company. We respect them. It’s nothing to do with Reed’s running of G2E Asia. We have nothing against the American Gaming Association either.” He added: “Personally at LT Game we have always supported G2E [Asia]. This is a great show. We’ll be at G2E in the U.S. as well. And we would like to bring some of our association members to the U.S. show as well. But G2E [Asia] is more focused on the ETGs [electronic table games]. Ours will be very different.” The new event will include F&B, gaming equipment suppliers, gaming-related

suppliers, non-gaming equipment suppliers, souvenir makers, and – perhaps critically – VIP junket operators.

GLI nets GSA first

G

LI has received an expansion in its ISO/IEC 17025 Scope of Accreditation for its Colorado

lab by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA). The expanded accreditation includes the GDS protocol, allowing GLI to provide an additional service within the Gaming Standards Association (GSA) Certification Program. The accreditation allows GLI to

evaluate the GDS protocol implementation for peripheral suppliers; GLI is the first test lab accredited to perform this testing for GSA certification. GSA President Peter DeRaedt said, “I congratulate GLI on attaining this accreditation… our members can now be tested for GDS certification through a certified test lab.”

Baha Mar gives massive boost to local economy, says EIR report

B

aha Mar, the largest single-phase resort development in the Western Hemisphere, has become a powerful driver of the Bahamian economy, and accounted for an estimated 5 percent of the Commonwealth’s

annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2011 and 2012, according to a comprehensive updated economic impact report (EIR) by Oxford Economics. The report shows that since 2005, Baha Mar has accounted for an average of

3.2 percent of the Bahamian economy. This accounts for a total of $2.1 billion between 2005 and 2012. Once the $3.5 billion integrated gaming resort is up and running, it is expected to account for 12.8 percent of Bahamian annual GDP on average. “We’ve always believed that Baha Mar would be a long-term investment that

would pay off for all Bahamians, and we’re pleased to share data that show just how powerful an economic force our project has become,” said Sarkis D. Izmirlian, Baha Mar’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “Whether measured in construction impact, Bahamian jobs, tax benefits, gaming revenues or visitor spending, Baha Mar is expected to generate literally billions of dollars in economic benefits. This creates real opportunities for Bahamians— jobs, training, entrepreneurship, and economic mobility.” “Baha Mar represents the largest single-phase tourism development in the

history of the Caribbean,” said Minister of State for Finance Michael Halkitis. “The data reflect the short- and long-term influence of this investment, which will have a lasting effect on the Bahamian economy through higher employment income, international visitor spending and Government revenues.”
