MATCH MAKER JOHN HEGGARTY EXPLAINS HOW TO FIND THE PERFECT PUTTER

1

We have all heard the saying “drive for show, putt for dough”, but with so many different types of putter available how do you know which one suits you’re game?

TOE WEIGHTED PUTTER This putter is best suited to players who have a pronounced curve to their stroke.

2

MID BALANCED PUTTER This putter suits players who have a gentle curve to their stroke - although it could work for a square-square stroke.

FACE BALANCED PUTTER This putter is normally used by players who employ a straight back-straight through stroke.

POSTURE Different putting styles bring different postures. Take a look in the mirror and see which posture is nearest to your putting style. From this simple process you can start the process of linking your style to a putter.

FACE BALANCED If the images left look familiar, then it’s more than likely you fit the bill for a face balanced putter. ★ The top of your back and the back of your head are parallel to the green ★ Your eye-line is directly above the ball to target line ★ Your hands will hang directly below the middle of your shoulders

TOE WEIGHTED If your set looks like this I believe either a mid-balanced or toe weighted putter will be suitable. ★ Top of your back and the back of your head are NOT parallel to the green ★ Your eye line is inside the ball to target line ★ Your hands will NOT hang directly under the middle of your shoulders
