Surface Design Show
Below the Surface
This year’s Surface Design Show is set to be a great event for anyone looking to find out more about what products are available to complete their projects or to inspire their designs.
Launched in 2004, the Surface Design Show is celebrating its 10th year with an incredible line up of exhibitors and excitement for their upcoming show, which is set to take place at Business Design Centre, London, from the 5th – 7th February. The show is a great event for architects
and interior designers to attend in order to research innovative surface solutions for built environments. Visitors who are working on commercial projects come to the show to source cutting edge materials or to gain that little bit of extra inspiration. The show features a number of companies whose products are perfect for the retail environment, so a visit is very much recommended. The 2013 show is set to feature a full
programme of talks, seminars and live demonstrations, with a focus on highlighting future trends of 2014. Two key spaces, Future Thinking and The Trend wall, focus on innovations and creative ideas that are in the process of being developed by designers, architects and manufacturers in the industry.
Future Thinking The Future Thinking area of this year’s show will be highlighting the hard work and thinking that goes into the development and selection of various materials for architecture and design. The area is a popular display of some of the emerging materials and technology that influences the work of architects and designers. Future Thinking will be held in
collaboration with Dr Sascha Peters from Haute Innovation an innovation consultant and materials specialist from Germany.
The Trend Wall This year The Trend Wall is going to be presented by Global Color Research™, the colour consultancy company behind Mix Magazine and Mix Trends colour forecast book. An eclectic mix of colour and material trends for 2014, The Trend Wall provides an opportunity to look at the key characteristics of new trends along with ideas on how to apply trends to various materials and surfaces.
Fringe Thinking The wide selection of materials and products available at the Surface Design Show are supported by the Fringe Thinking programme of debates, seminars and presentations. The main interactive elements of the show will fall into CPD Seminars and Working Portraits. The CPD Seminars will be hosted at the CPD Hub, giving visitors an opportunity to accrue valuable CPD points as well as keeping abreast of all the latest issues in the sector. The Working Portraits Theatre will be hosting interviews, debates and presentations from some great minds in the fields of architecture and design. Preview Evening Once again, the Surface Design Show will be kicking off with a Preview Evening. Held on the 5th February, the event’s highlight will be a live debate entitled ‘Material People’, hosted by Aidan Walker for FX magazine, who will be joined by a range of guest speakers and will chair the debate. With an audience of over 500, the Live Debate tends to attract some of the best known names in the industry.
