FRESH PRODUCTS New gear

This month BikeBiz checks in with Shimano’s new high- end road group, comes across a book to help us maintain it and much more...

Shimano Dura Ace 9000 group Madison: 0208 385 3385

FOR THE model year of 2013, Shimano has lifted the lid on a new high-end road group – Dura Ace 9000. With 90 per cent of the information now confirmed, we do know that it’ll be an 11-speed group, that’s rumoured to tip the scales at 77-grams under its predecessor. Key to the upgrades, shifter performance has been designed with efficiency in mind, with a reduction in distance that each lever need be pushed to change gear, as well as improved adjustability in the reach by up to 10mm. Switching to 11-speed has prompted Shimano to design a completely new, wider hub. The drive-side flange has been repositioned to allow for this change, while the non-drive side has shunted 7mm outward to ensure the wheel remains laterally stiff. Seven 9000 series wheels will be made available, with both clincher and tubular options in production. Feedback has largely related to the crank design,

which takes on a four-arm design, said to be as stiff as the prior five-arm layout. The design is reinforced where the most force is likely to be exerted in the pedal stroke. Two new climbing mid-compact chainring combos 52/38t and 52/36t are to be available.

3T ‘London’ finishing kit i-ride: 01444 243000

I-RIDE WILL take stock of limited ‘London edition’ 3T finishing kit from Mid-June. Designed to celebrate the Olympic champions

who have won on 3T bars in the past 50 years, the high-gloss white finishing kit bears a striking, asymmetric motif, suggestive of the prestigious rainbow colors: yellow, green, red, black, and blue. The ‘London Edition’ parts are sold as a package of

bar, stem, and seatpost, one for road, one for MTB. The road set comprises Ergonova Team, Arx Team, and Dorico Team. The MTB set comprises Xida Team, Arx Team, and Doric Team. A range of sizes is to be carried in the UK. 3T chief executive René Wiertz said of the

product: “At the last Olympiad, in Beijing, 3T had medal winners in Fabian Cancellara and Gustav Larsson riding our Ventus TT bar. We’ve come a long way since then. Four years on, in London, there will be numerous riders on 3T – in road-racing, time-trial, and track events. The new London Edition gives 3T fans something really special to mark this year.”

Haynes: The Bike Book Haynes: 01963 442030

IT’S NOT always easy to sell repair guides, what with Google providing articles and videos detailing each step. Customers will, however, be more easily persuaded

to purchase when a household label such as Haynes brings a title to market. To date, prior versions of this title have sold over 900,000 copies and with this edition now in stock, that figure should soon surpass one million sold. This edition compiles all prior material and adds details on all the latest technology and developments to hit the industry in recent years, as well as information on bikefitting, how to use tools and what bike to purchase for various types of cycling. With over 1,000 photos and a difficulty rating

attached to each job, the classic format remains, talking the reader through the job in the signature way that all Haynes manuals do. Haynes has stock of the Mark Storey-written title now and the retail price is £16.99.
