Snow industry boosted by extra ski resort flights

By Jonathon Harker

SKI RETAILERS and suppliers could be set for a boost at retail following the news that British Airways will increase the number of flights to European ski destinations this winter. From December 18th, two popular

resorts – Turin and Salzberg – will see flights increased from Gatwick to five a week for the Austrian resort and ten times a week for the Italian resort. The extra return service to Turin will operate on a Sunday, while the extra return services to Salzberg will operate on Thursday and Saturday. Sophie McKinstrie, British Airways

Gatwick, said: “These routes are already very popular with winter travellers and skiers in particular, so we have taken the opportunity to boost our winter schedule with the extra flights.” BA isn’t the only flight provider

getting in on the act, with Monarch increasing the number of ski destinations that it flies to, following the 2011/2012 ‘bumper’ snow season. The firm is now offering flights to Friedrichshafen, Munich and Grenoble from this autumn, providing access to nearby ski and snowboarding
