Ni Breastfeeding Breastfeeding sponsored by
I want to ensure I have everything ready when the baby arrives, what are the breast feeding essentials? There are three essentials I’d advise you get for the hospital bag and even before. Breast pads will come in handy for any leakages and will certainly be needed as you start to breast feed. PureLan is an essential during the early days to keep your nipples moist as they get used to their new role. And, a comfortable nursing bra, even before you start breast feeding, is important as it provides support as your breasts grow and develop for breast feeding. Under wired are a must.
Did you know? One of the fastest growth
areas is rental of hospital grade pumps as over 15% births are made up of multiples or NICU babies
Why might I need a breast pump? There are many reasons why you may need a pump. Are you hoping for an afternoon out with the girls or thinking of leaving the baby with granny for a weekend? Or maybe you are returning to work? A breast pump enables you to express breast milk to feed the baby for times when you are not around. Other mothers may choose to use a pump to express milk to give the father an opportunity to feed the baby as well. And in some cases, if a baby is premature or too sick to breastfeed, using a breast pump to express milk may be the only way for your baby to get your milk. Some mothers also use a pump to improve their milk supply. Buying a pump is a personal choice, but they can certainly offer support on various levels during this important time.
Which breast pump do I need?
It all depends on how much you plan on using it. If it is as a back-up in case you need to pop to the shops a manual pump will be ideal, but if you are planning a weekend away and need to build up a good supply you will certainly need an electric pump. And, if the supply is needed on a more long term basis, for your return to work for example, you should consider a double pump or even think about the option to rent a hospital grade breast pump as this will provide you with an extremely efficient breast pump.
Did you know? Babies have
a growth spurt at 3 weeks and 3 months!

Did you know? The proportion of babies breastfed at birth in the UK rose by seven per cent in recent years
Finding the right feeding device for expressed breast milk is essential so that you do not affect baby’s breast feeding experience. To help with this Medela have developed Calma, a unique innovation which enables a baby to maintain its naturally learnt breast feeding method when using a bottle. It will therefore support mother and baby who need to move
from breast to bottle, and most importantly back to breast...
just the solution if you want to get your partner involved, or if granny is helping out on the weekend!
