As the line between traditionalmilitary and homeland security continues tomerge, DSEi has undergone a subtle but significant shift - the S now stands for security

Over the last fewevents, DSEi has increasingly covered products and services related to national security. Not only has exhibition organiser, Clarion Events, changed the name of the showto reflect this change in focus, it has also introduced a newsecurity demonstration area for 2011.

New features include an indoor unmanned vehicle and robotics demonstration zone as well as land, sea and air static displays, including the Apache helicopter and Joint Strike Fighter.

Electronics pavilion

Of key interest to electronics buyers and specifiers is a dedicated international electronics pavilion, designed to provide a platformfor new technologies. The DSEi electronics pavilion will help electronics companies exploit the potential of the defence and securitymarket. It will act as a focus area for companies of all sizes, supporting exhibitors as they promote complex products, many of which are too small to be viewed by the naked eye alone. Companies such as XJTAG, Vicor, Lauterbach, ALR, Schroff, Jalteck, Humiseal and Phaedsys have already committed to exhibit.

Other initiatives taking place during the exhibition include a

showcase for unmanned vehicle systems, supported by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI). This football pitch-sized area will be used to demonstrate unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) during the show with a series of panels and showcases fromAUVSI.
