Adjustable test sockets cut costs
Charged and ready to drive
Foremost Electronics is nowstocking the E-Mobility range of electric vehicle charging connectors manufactured by FCT Electronic. These 16 or 33A connectors are designed for theworldwide net integration of electric vehicles and are designed tomeet the requirements of IEC 62196-2, the proposed European standard for electric vehicle charging connectors.
Cyntech Components has introduced a range of sockets with optional adjustable pressure pads for test and burn-in of chip scale packages (CSP) andmicro ball grid arrays (MicroBGA).
Using a hex key, the pressure pads can be adjusted
with the socket lid open or closed, saving cost and time by enabling a single socket to test a range of devices of different thicknesses. Sockets are suitable for devices up to 13mmsquare, up to 1mmthick and with a contact pitch of 0.30mmormore.
The adjustable pressure pads allow formovement
without applying excessive pressure to the device under test. It enables test operators to adjust the contact force to obtain an optimal connection and is particularly useful in overcoming co-planarity issues with the device or test board.

Deutsch has teamed up with GigaCom again to produce an expanded beam offering compatible with theMIL-DTL- 83526 hermaphroditic fibre optic connector range. Like the RSC Illustris, the TMC Illustris incorporates expanded beam optical sub-assembly (EBOSA) technology from GigaCom, using actively aligned ferrules to enhance performance.
When coupled in a daisy chain formation,
overall insertion loss is said to be less than other alternatives, making it possible to achieve greater distances. Utilising standard LC type ferrules, modular EBOSA and standard tooling, the TMC is ideal for industrial andmilitary ground vehicles as well as broadcast andmedia applications.
Other advantages of the expanded beam
element include reduced sensitivity to dust and vibration, giving a repeatable typical
insertion loss of around 0.5 to 1.5dB for multi-mode fibre and 1.0 to 2.0dB for single- mode fibre.
The TMC is available fromDeutsch as
component connectors and terminated cable assemblies, fitted to a variety of deployable reels for vehiclemounting and personnel back-packs.

Positronic has expanded its line of hermetic products to run froma single connector to a full array of connectorsmounted on a flange. Choices include:mixed density, high power; high voltage; RF; circular connectors; and both standard and high density D-subminiature connectors.
The latest addition is an industrial non-
magnetic version, ideal formedical instrumentation requiring high reliability and lowmagnetic permeability ratings. The D-subminiature version is designed for use

in sensitive applications such asmagnetic field detection and boasts low residual magnetismto reduce potential interference at the connector level.
Price for a nine-position D-subminiature
feed-through connector with stainless steel shell for industrial applications is 50 pieces at $151.51. Inmany cases delivery time is fromstock.

Within the IEC 62196-2 ruling, one and three-phase connections of 16 to 63A are incorporatedwith high current contacts having a diameter of 6.0mm. Signal contacts for data communication have a diameter of
3.0mmand an integrated resistance coding for identification and login. A mechanical lockingmechanismprovides fixing and safety during the charging process. If required, data communication between the vehicle, the charging unit and the network provider can be realised via an additional frequencymodulator.
In order to accommodate the extreme climate conditions experienced in
automotive applications, outline specifications of the eMobility connector are: single and three-phase operation at 230, 400 and 500V AC, current up to 70A, safetymounting and dismounting connection sequence, safety cut out connection, weatherproof to greater than IP44 and operating temperature range of -30 to 70o
