High-frequency probes suit small pitch ICs
Aries Electronics now offers machined high-frequency centre probe test sockets to accommodate IC devices with a lead pitch of 0.30mm. Designed to offer low inductance and capacitance, the sockets are ideal for ball grid array (BGA), chip scale package (CSP) and micro land frame (MLF) packages.
This is possible thanks to a four-point crown or sharp point gold plated 0.30mm
pitch probe pin, spring and flanged bottompin, which contacts the tail of the probe pin to shorten the signal path. A signal path of 1.96mmalso supports minimal signal loss and higher bandwidth capacity.
Spring loaded contacts, made of gold-plated berylliumcopper, provide a life of
up to 500,000 cycles with contact forces of 15g per contact on a 0.30mmto 0.35mmpitch, 16g per contact on a 0.40mmto 0.45mmpitch and 25g per contact on a 0.50mmpitch or larger. Contact resistance is less than 40milliohm.
The socket accepts solder ball sizes from0.15mmto 0.93mm, with pricing for a
50-position socket rated to 5GHz starting at $975. Delivery is twenty working days ARO and approval of drawing.

RS Components has added a range of 2.54mmpitch sockets and headers in the HarwinM20 series to its interconnect offering. Featuring 0.64mmsquare pins and designed for industrial, test and consumer electronics applications, the connectors can carry up to 3A per contact, using twin leaf, phosphor-bronze contacts.
TheM20 product family includes vertical and horizontal
types in through-hole or surfacemount styles. There are options for crimp contacts, gold plated contacts and single or double-rowpin configurations. The rated voltage is 250V AC/DC and insulation resistance is 1,000Mohms.
rswww.com Gigabitmodule supports Ethernet rail applications
Harting's Gigabitmodule insert for the Han-Modular industrial connector system offers Ethernet performance at up to 10Gbit/s. The new shieldedmodule meets Cat 5, Cat 6 and Cat 7 requirements and is optimised for use in rail applications.
Themodule is designed for usewith
strandedwire of 0.08 to 0.5mm² cross- section and cable diameters in the five to 12mmrange. It contains eight crimp contactswith four data pairswith separate
shielding for every data pair. Larger diameter cable can be clamped using a Harting InduComcrimp or screw-type flange.
The new Han GigaBit module
supplements the 30 existing modules in the Han-Modular open connector system that allows users to configure connectors to handle electrical, optical and pneumatic signals.
