Bernie Woollands bought his first koi in 1969. He is a member of the South East Section and a BKKS and NVN Judge, having had articles published in Australia, Holland, Japan, South Africa, USA and the UK.


This Tancho took the Best in Variety title at this year’s All Japan Show. It is an excellent example of its class

aving been invited to join our benching team in 1989 I did what all aspiring benchers do and got myself up to date with all the


varieties and their Benching Class. The book that was in vogue at that time was Takeo Kuroki’s Manual to Nishikigoi, which I read from cover to cover.


Part of the reason for me being invited onto our benching team was that they wanted me to automate the benching admin, but that’s another story.
