totals reap great rewards in the form of prizes and of course, bragging rights. Our grand prize winners this year were Travis Mangum in third place and Michael Mans in second place. John Gliszcznski took first place and holds the title of GS Giant for the coming year! Along with a really nice slate plaque, they shared some nifty prizes donated by Rev’It, Bill Mayer Saddles and Redverz. A total of 206 GS Giants attended

the rally in Billings, earning the award for largest virtual club. For those who missed it or can’t wait until next year when the adventure continues in Pennsylvania and New York, please visit the GS Giant web- site and check out the coming events:

Wailing Wayne Week- end, Rib Fest and more (www.gsgiants.com). The GS Giants are

extremely grateful to all of the volunteers and BMW MOA staff who helped make this epic adventure such a suc- cess! I’m reluctant to name names since I know I will forget someone, but I have to give a shout out to Sue Rihn, Jason Olson, and Vince Barkhoff for a superb job! The City of Billings rolled out the red carpet and treated all rally goers like rock stars, and it also deserves a multi- tude of praise. to date, and we will have a hard time top- ping this in 2016. Finally, sincere gratitude to the GS Giant family—and we are all truly a family: Ian Schmeisser, Kevin Shrader, Roy Hedman, Ed Gourley, and countless others who pitched in and volun- teered their time for tasks big and small.

RPU Rally wrap-up By Tom Pemberton, BMW MOA Rider Education Coordinator

THE 2015 BMW MOA INTERNA- tional Rally is now history, and the Rider Performance University (RPU) saw many successes, as well as areas for improvement.

RPU Range Classes For the first time in several years we offered the full spectrum of MSF classes on two full size ranges: the Advanced Rider Course, the Ultimate Bike Bonding Rider Course, and the Basic Rider Course, Level 2. All were well attended, with 77 percent of those who signed up attending the classes. About 16 percent of our stu- dents showed up the day of the course to attend as well. This gave us an attendance rate of 92 percent, very good considering some of the prob- lems we faced.

RPU Seminars We held several seminars and

workshops this year, some presented in pre- vious years and some new. “The Seasoned Rider” and “Street Smarts

– Rider Perception” workshops were well attended, almost to an overflow capacity. We did face some technical issues, but were able to overcome them. The David Hough “Low Speed” and “High Speed” workshops were also very popular, with overflow crowds attending both sessions. Many members found these workshops informa- tive and entertaining.

New SMARTrainer Street Strategies Workshop This year we introduced a new workshop designed around the MOA SMARTrainer. With the help of Roger Wiles, former Rider Education Coordinator, and Al Hydeman, former MSF SMARTrainer trainer, we designed a workshop to utilize the SMART- rainer in a more effective manner. The con- cept was to work with small groups to allow riding the SMARTrainer along with key

sections from the Street Strategies sections of the Street Smarts workshop to leverage the SMARTrainer as a workshop tool. It proved very effective, and we hope to utilize this workshop at future training events.

SMARTrainer For the first time in any rally in recent years, a MOA SMARTrainer was located in the vendor area instead of near the MOA Gear- Store as in past years. This proved to be a boon to the attendance and usage of the SMARTrainer. We saw a sizable increase over previous years in the number of mem- bers who came to check out their street strategy skills on the SMARTrainer. In addition, we were able to work with the GEARS Training program to provide time for their students to have a learning experi- ence on the SMARTrainer.

Overall, it was a good rally for the RPU, with more members than ever receiving benefits from the RPU programs of the MOA.
