a challenging adventure riding track. In the shadow of a cliff, the track offered three skill levels with several obstacles, including logs, hill climbs, tight turns, barrels, and a teeter-totter. Once again, this was a big attraction for rally goers, particularly dur- ing the friendly track competition on Fri- day, when riders competed for bragging rights and prizes. As it turned out, this was also an attraction for the local news media, as they tried to understand why someone would take a $20,000+ motorcycle and risk damaging it or getting hurt. Every rodeo needs a clown. Perhaps
some may have been there just to watch chief wrangler Dan Stys wrestle a bike out of the mud wearing a tutu. In all, 22 riders competed on the track for bragging rights and prizes including a new Garmin Mon- tana, donated by South Sound BMW, a set of tires donated by Continental, and a lug- gage rack system donated by Outback Mototek. Competition was tight, but in the end, the top winners were Lance Gines as the “second place loser,” Jeremy Lebreton as the “first place loser,” and Dennis Godwin as the winner. Congrats to all who gave a good showing! As the Giants continue to grow in num-
ber, so does our rally schedule. This year, members put on several seminars including “Adventure Riding from a Female’s Perspec- tive.” Dawn Hein took the lead, gathering a panel of female Giants to discuss challenges of the sport that are unique to the female gender. Based on feedback and attendance (both male and female) the seminar and subsequent women’s events were instantly popular, and we are excited to see more women getting out and getting dirty! Thanks to all the adventurous women who participated in the seminar and also to the nineteen riders who participated in the women’s adventure ride! Also, thanks to those who donated give-aways for the women’s GS events, including Ted Porter, Wolfman Luggage, and Olympia, among others! Throughout the event, riders have the
opportunity to earn points by volunteering, visiting sites, riding specific areas, and par- ticipating on the track. The highest point
