Candidates in all disciplines performed under the watchful gaze of team selectors. No pressure, huh?

to construct a narrative about how to present the joys of snowboarding in a way that appeals to instructors and students alike.

YOU’LL LOVE SKIING, RIDING, LEARNING WITH THEM While much of Team Selection can seem like a tribute to personal accomplishment, the reality is that each attendee has dedicated his or her life to sharing and growing snowsports, and wants the opportunity to positively impact instruction at the highest level. To even be invited to participate in Team Selection, and compete for a spot on the team, is an accomplishment in itself. “Something happens here where you see these incredible teachers

working together and building relationships that will benefit us all,” said Younglove. “Tis rigorous process is what makes the Team what it is.” Choosing exactly who among the many qualified candidates actually made the team was also a rigorous process. “In the end, we had 11 instructors who truly deserved to be on the team but could only take six,” explained K.C. Gandee, a former Snowboard Team member who served on the selection committee. “Te group chosen consistently demonstrated the most fun; whether it was expressed through their riding, through their teaching and group-leading skills, or through indoor presentations. Te five men and one woman chosen for the team will help our membership and the world of snowboard instruction have more fun!” Eastern Division’s Doug Daniels, who served as an alpine

selector, said, “As a National Academy participant, I am paying for what these folks have to offer. So whenever I was stuck, I would just ask myself, ‘Would I be happy shelling out my own money to ski with that person?’” After helping pick the cream of the crop of candidates, Daniels answered his question, saying, “After all was said and done, I can honestly say that with the new Team, I’ve already got my checkbook out.” Congratulations to everyone who made the effort – and to everyone who supported them on their journey.
