2016-20 TEAM SELECTION: PSIA-AASI CHOOSES THE NEW BRICKLAYERS FOR

YOUR PATH TO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT %\ 3HWHU .UD\

Interski, you’ve benefited from snowsports education molded, in part, by the men and women who make up the PSIA-AASI Team. Indeed, if you’ve walked up to a class of eager students and had some concept of what you’d teach them, you owe your relative ease (or at least lack of dread) to these fellow instructors who’ve helped pave your path of professional development. And now, after a comprehensive process that culminated in April with four grueling days of on-snow competition and professional assessment at Breckenridge, Colorado, a new team has been chosen for the 2016-20 term. Representing the highest levels of technical skill, knowledge, and teaching expertise in the adaptive, alpine, cross country, snowboard, and telemark disciplines (including specialists in freestyle and children’s education), 30 Team members were selected from 81 candidates invited to Breckenridge. Working with a team manager, discipline-specific coaches, and an adaptive captain, they will help guide PSIA-AASI’s educational outreach to you and fellow instructors throughout the United States… and beyond. Turn to page 60 for an introduction to the new and returning team members, and read on for a glimpse into what Team Selection is all about.

FOUR DAYS TO PRESENT A LIFETIME OF PREPARATION Of course, the journey for each candidate began long before they ever carried all their hopes and dreams into a Colorado conference room and the slopes outside it. Tey’ve devoted years – if not decades – to improving their own riding, improving the riding of countless others, and climbing the ladder of certification. As students and mentors alike, only the snow god Ullr knows what they have sacrificed for the cause of better ski and snowboard instruction. A CHANCE TO HAND-PICK THE VERY BEST Tose candidates, some of the best instructors in the United States, contended throughout the selection event with variable and challenging conditions as well as the pressure to be at the top of their game. “All candidates showcased their talents as some of the nation’s top- notch athletes and teachers,” said PSIA-AASI Director of Education Dave Schuiling. “Tey really showed their stuff on steeps, chutes, bumps, and park and pipe. Everyone was required to undergo extensive interviews and conduct teaching clinics, give presentations, and demonstrate spot-on movement analysis – all under the watchful eye of examiners and selectors assigned to separate the very best from the best.”
