A biblical perspective of one of today’s greatest national needs.
BY: BRYCE JESSUP
As a small boy, I remember my dad (William Jessup) calling the church to unity. He held “unity meetings” in city parks with many churches engaged in lively debates in the late 1930’s and 1940’s. Around 1,000 people would show up because they recognized they were a divided people. In reaction to the drift of “modernism” of the day, many churches tightened their policies and narrowed their inclusiveness as to who was a part of God’s forever family!
I wonder how Dad would feel if he were
alive today given the acceleration of disunity that exists not simply in churches, but in families, communities, among racial groups, political parties, and globally among the nations? We feel helpless and weep over the killings by extremist groups, continuing acceleration of sexual slavery among children, and thousands of people dying of starvation daily.
In America, the disunity has accelerated
exponentially since the elections as expressed by the many adult demonstrations and even down to our junior high and high school students, with thousands of them leaving their classes to join the demonstrations. Some people are using it to their own selfish advantage by developing businesses like Rent a Riot! Their Facebook ad reads “When something does not go your way call us! We can riot on your behalf for a small fee per rioter!” Unbelievable!
