OVERCOMING HURDLES TO BE BAPTIZED IN THE TRUTH

C
oming to Jessup as a transfer student from American River Community College, Hailey Parkhouse- McAllister didn’t know the extent of the adventure she would be embarking on enrolling in Spring of 2014, but looking back now can say it changed her life in a positive way.
“My first thoughts were that I would be looked at as an outsider
since I came in a non-believer,” Parkhouse-McAllister said. “But that was quickly turned around by the people and culture of Jessup in caring for those around them and really meaning it.” Hailey was looking to finish her education and coming to a religious
based school as a non-believer brought unexpected challenges and blessings. Unaware of the required Bible minor, Hailey knew she was going to be enrolled longer than expected but that didn’t waive her decision to stay and learn something she hadn’t known before. “It was different to be forced to take Bible classes,” she said about
her concern of passing those classes. “It was a blessing to get great teachers that are aware that not all students are believers.” Outside of what she was learning in her Bible classes, Hailey was starting to attend church with a close friend and enjoyed the
opportunity to learn more about God. Every Saturday her friend invited her to church, often waiting outside her door. It was in May of 2014 that Parkhouse-McAllister made a decision
to follow Christ wholeheartedly. “It was overwhelming. I raised my hand and I was holding back tears,” she said after accepting Christ at church. That day Hailey found herself sitting in her car in awe of His presence and continued to see the work He had done in her life up to that moment. In the start of her second year at Jessup, the Lord would introduce
her to another facet of the William Jessup family, athletics. In spring of 2015 Parkhouse-McAllister was approached to run track and field. “I thought I was done,” she said about going back on the track. “It was a blessing in disguise to be approached and so quickly be a part of a team again.” By Spring 2015 she found herself in the gym to get back in shape,
a task that challenged her in every way; physically, emotionally and spiritually. The overall goal for that spring was to get in shape and continue that process through the next semester with cross country and then strive to make NAIA Nationals during her last year of
