revolution.” What most of us may not know, is this scientific revolution occurred in a culture permeated in a Christian worldview, with the majority of the leaders being of the Christian faith. Copernicus with his heliocentric model of the solar system, Kepler’s laws of planetary motion, Galileo’s telescopic observations, Newton’s law of universal gravitation, and experimental studies of gases by chemist Robert Boyle. Though many of these scientists were denounced by the ruling church authorities at the time, they persevered and established laws of nature we all accept today. Several more examples of how the Bible has contributed to

establishing truth within the sciences is Matthew Maury, while first describing fluid dynamics that govern jet streams of air and ocean currents, based his initial understandings for his discoveries while reading Psalm 8:6-8, and Ecclesiastes 1:6. Today, he is considered the father of oceanography and meteorology. William Harvey was an English physician who was the first to describe completely the systemic circulation and properties of blood. He stated, “I have thought that we might thence not only obtain an insight

into the lighter mysteries of

nature, but there perceive a kind of image or reflex of the omnipotent Creator himself.” After demonstrating the circulatory system, he concluded that “life therefore resides in the blood (as we are informed in our sacred writings).” He based this on Leviticus 17:11, 14. He cited God’s word both as a scientific fact corroborated thousands of years later, but also as an item that stimulated new scientific discovery.

It becomes apparent, with the review of our scientific discoveries

over the centuries, that science and the Bible are not at all inconsistent or incongruent. Rather, the Bible continues to provide significant research opportunities and justifications for seeking the truth, not just in scientific endeavors, but in all aspects of life experiences. Historically, all scientists referenced here understand the appeal

of being able to glance into the mind of God, to observe and finally comprehend how He made things work, in the hope of understanding more fully both God and His works, which has resulted in a frequent and productive force in the development of modern science. There is a lesson for 21st century scientists here.

If the Bible is

true, it should provide clues, as it has in the past to open up new areas for observation and research. For those valiant souls who will not succumb to the influences crying out against the truth as it is revealed in scientific thought, inquiry, and investigation, the possibility exists for more scientific insights waiting to be discovered in the pages of the Bible. Thomas Paine stated, “All the

principles of science are of divine origin. Men cannot make or invent, or contrive principles. He can only discover them; and he ought to look through the discovery to the Author.” Could the Bible again provide keys

to unlock today’s greatest scientific questions? Could it steer us away from disastrous mistakes? Let a new generation of scientists, those who may possess the courage in the face of overwhelming pressure to conform, put the Word of God to the test.

LUES, AS IT HAS IN THE PAST TO OPEN UP NEW AREAS FOR OBSERVATION AND RESEARCH."
