ABOUT THE THEME NEXT UP @ JESSUP: Jessup Magazine Celebrates 500 Years

of Protestant Reformation THROUGHOUT 2017: Explore the Act of God That Changed Church and Culture

It was five hundred years ago that a young German monk tacked his ninety- five point response thesis to the Castle Church door in Wittenberg. The public debate was birthed, a discussion of reformation surrounding the church, the Bible and a solo induced soteriology. The thoughts and exegetical

instruction of fered by Martin Luther—and many others—is more than a simplistic historical challenge to Catholic practices. Today, the Reformation remains as a continual challenge to the modern era evangelical church. To recognize this year’s 500th

anniversary of the Reformation, the Jessup Magazine will be feature three William Jessup University alumni and their heartfelt, exegetical remembrance and application of the Reformation. In the next three issues of Jessup

Magazine, look for coming articles from Jessup graduates Michael Pagan LEFT (BA, Music, Music Education, ‘15;

M.Div. student - spring issue), Zak Graves middle (BA, Bible & Theology, Pastoral Ministry; ‘14 MAL student - summer issue) and Matthew Crane right (BA, Bible & Theology, Youth Ministry, ‘05; M.Div., Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary and Graduate School, ‘09 - fall issue). At five hundred years, the

Reformation still matters: “For until men recognize that they

owe everything to God, that they are nourished by the fatherly care, that he is Author of their every good, that they should seek nothing but him—they will never yield him willing service. Nay, unless they establish their complete happiness in him, they will never give him themselves truly and sincerely to him.”

(Calvin, Institutes, 1.2.1.)

ABOUT THE COVER:

This issue’s cover is the first installment in an evolving photo series capturing what it means to “Study Jessup, Play NorCal, Love Life.” While University President Dr. Jackson expands on this concept on page 4, you’ll also find Jessup’s unique academic, geographic and spiritual fingerprint throughout this issue, our online presence and across our social media platforms. It takes the entire Jessup Family – students, parents, staff and community – to capture the story of what God is doing through WJU and why so many call it “life-changing.” We’d love to hear your #JessupExperience and invite you to post, tweet or Instagram using the hashtag or contact us at magazine@jessup.edu.
