Jessup Launches
SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
LAST FALL, WILLIAM JESSUP UNIVERSITY HOSTED A RIBBON-CUTTING CEREMONY FOR THE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS.
“The demand for highly-competent, principled business leaders continues to grow and the establishment of the School of Business enables William Jessup University to meet this need,” said Roger Salstrom, Dean of the recently formed School. “The School of Business will help WJU become the leader in our region for quality, relevant and ethical undergraduate, graduate and professional business education.” Jessup’s Business Department started in
2004 with a small number of students in the traditional undergraduate program. Since that time, the department has experienced continued growth and is currently the largest major on campus. In addition, the business degree program is one of the most popular
selections for students enrolled in the School of Professional Studies, a program geared for working adults. During the ceremony, five Jessup
alumni shared some of the ways their education positioned them for success in the business arena. “Four words that sum up my educational experience at Jessup are inspiring, thought-provoking and personalized,” said alumnus Rebecca O’Brien during a video message at the ceremony. “At Jessup I learned we should treat everyone with a servants heart. This will bless not only our careers but our generation and the generations to come.” O’Brien works for Hewlett Packard Enterprise.
Currently employed at Oracle, recent
graduate Adam Hartigan cited his one-on- one interactions with Ph.D. practitioners increased his ability to be selected as one of ten interns nationwide. “I didn’t just heighten my educational prowess at Jessup. My education allowed me to build relationships not only with the professors but also with fellow students. Jessup allowed me to develop as a businessman and a Christian. Faith was integrated throughout the curriculum and Jessup taught me directly how to incorporate my faith into my everyday work life at Oracle,” Hartigan said. Among those attending the event Jessup’s esteemed Business
included
Department faculty, Business Advisory Board members and Chris Dancy, former director of operations at Herman Miller Furniture factory that once stood on Jessup’s converted 125-acre campus. Jessup’s Business program prepares
students for effective service as Christian leaders in the world while emphasizing Christian principles and training on theoretical and practical aspects of management and leadership. At the undergraduate level, students are taught to be trusted business professionals through a challenging academic experience, a community-focused internship program and a biblically based Christian foundation.
