ME: Your software not only simulates NC processes, but also verifies and optimizes manufacturing processes; describe those capabilities. Hasenjaeger: The ‘verification’ piece of Vericut refers to the software creating an in-process model of the workpiece, the real objective of the process in the first place. The heart of Vericut’s success in machining verification is its accurate representation of the as-machined workpiece that’s created cut-by-cut in a simulation driven by the NC program. The in-process workpiece can then be accurately measured and compared to a CAD model of the finished product to ensure the NC program is not only collision-free, but actually creates the desired machined part. The accurate in-process workpiece is also a require- ment of good feed-rate optimiza- tion. Calculating the correct feed rate depends on an accurate representation of the cutter’s contact with the work- piece for each cut, as the workpiece is changed by each cut. are looking to have 100% confidence that the simulation exactly matches the behavior of the machine and the resulting cut part. Today’s manufacturing climate requires more precise NC pro- gram verification techniques with faster results than ever before. But as these basic demands have increased, so has the complexity of the machines. Multiple setups on multiaxis or even multitasking machines have now become common- place. Configuring these machines and producing error-free NC programs that are ‘right the first time’ can be a monu- mental undertaking. Additionally, to stay competitive in the global marketplace, manufacturing people are expected to create programs that run as efficiently

as possible. Without fast, precise verification and optimization tools, this can be an overwhelming task. ME: How critical is simulating actual G-code, versus alternative methods?
