1967 We’re a One Sport Family BY TOM CHILD “From December through March six pairs of skates are hung close to the back door, ready to be snatched from the hooks as Auz and I and the four kids pile in the car after sup- per and head for the pond in Medfi eld. That twenty-dollars-a-year membership fee is the best investment I ever made. You wouldn’t believe the fun we have skating. It’s a three- ring circus. From seven o’clock to nine-thirty we’re skating hard — shoot-the-duck con- tests, improvised ice dances, speed races and always a little learning.”

1937 From Rink to Rink on the West Coast BY MARIBEL Y. VINSON “Only a skater could describe a 10,000

mile aeroplane trip in terms of rinks, and clubs and carnivals. This is the story of how

Gracie Gold

Guy Owen of the Minto Skating Club and I fl ew to Portland, Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles between Decem- ber 1 and 22, and it will be mostly a tale of the skating and the skaters we found at each stop. Except for the weather, it was a grand jaunt and very interesting indeed from a skating viewpoint.” To read these articles and more in their
