For 15 years, Friends of Figure Skating

(FOFS) has supported fi gure skaters of all ages, from Learn to Skate to Team USA. Through their membership, Friends receive benefi ts such as a subscription to SKATING, tickets to FOFS breakfasts at Skate America and the U.S. Championships, U.S. Figure Skating ap- parel and much more. In this issue, we Focus on Friends and share the story of one of our generous donors. Susan Bonn was FOFS’s fi rst Gold mem-

ber and served as chair for the Memorial Fund from 2011 to 2014. An infl uential and instru- mental member of the giving programs of U.S. Figure Skating, Bonn has shaped many young lives through her generous donations of time and money. A skater herself, Bonn started skating at age 8 but had to give it up when she moved with her family to Mountain Home, Arkansas, at the age of 16. With no rinks in the nearby area, she was heartbroken, but eventually returned to skating at age 47. She decided to get involved with her local club in Berkeley, California, and her passion for the sport and helping others took off from

there. She currently serves on the Finance Committee and the Adult Skating Commit- tee for U.S. Figure Skating, and truly feels the sense of community within the sport. SKATING: What made you want to be a

FOFS? Bonn: I fi rst saw the program on the

website and joined as a Red-level member. Eventually I realized I wanted to be more in- volved and my membership grew. I am so proud to be the fi rst-ever Gold member of Friends of Figure Skating. SKATING: What is your favorite fi gure

skating moment? Bonn: I have so many. Seeing Evan Ly-

sacek qualify for the Olympics, I remember being in the 10th row and being so happy for him. Watching Jeremy Abbott win the men’s title was also special. I was just really, really thrilled for him. SKATING: What is your favorite perk/

benefi t of being a FOFS? Bonn: Being able to meet and be friends

with the skaters I enjoyed watching is just such a special thing. I have so many great re-

Susan Bonn and Douglas Razzano

lationships and lasting friendships with those I’ve met through Friends of Figure Skating. SKATING: Who is your favorite fi gure

skater of all time? Bonn: This is tough! Adam Rippon’s

Beatles program is my all-time favorite. Peg- gy Fleming was my idol and Michelle Kwan is right up there for me, too. Also, Charlie Tick- ner is a favorite of mine. I know him and his wife, and they are special people.
