Brittany Woodward, Snyder SWRE names 8th grade essay winners “Imagine that you live in the year


2050. What are some uses of electricity that you think might be common?” That is the topic that 8th grade


students throughout Southwest Rural Electric Association’s service area in Oklahoma and Texas considered recently in the cooperative’s 2015 SWRE 8th grade Energy Essay Con- test.


Some students took a whimsical approach to the topic, imagining flying electric cars, electric robots, and a lifestyle straight out of “The Jetsons”. Others took a practical appoach,


writing about improved medical treat- ments, easier food preparation, increased energy efficiency, or more earth-friendly power sources. Hundreds of essays were submitted for the contest. Ten Texoma students were named


winners and received $50 cash prizes. Contest winners were as follows: Hunter Britt, Crowell MS. He is the


son of Joshua Britt. His teacher was Rocquelle Hunter. Michayla Cheney, Navajo School,


Altus. Her parents are Michael and Lisa Cheney. Her teacher was Brandi Waldroop. Cason King Cook, Vernon MS. He is


the son of Chris and LeAnn Cook. Cason’s teacher was Misti Dickerson. Ronna Dennis, Vernon MS. Ronna


is the daughter of Ronny and Lynn Dennis. Her teacher was Melanie Smith. Kaden Baylor Hans, Blair MS. He is


the son of Misty Garrison and Sean Hans. His teacher was Kathi Martin. Jaci Hernandez, Frederick MS. Jaci


is the daughter of Richard Hernandez and Araceli Rodriguez. Her teacher was Classie Nolan.
