the day I couldn’t be happier with the job I have.” Not one to keep her fi ndings to herself, Stevens trains a group of female triathletes in Oklahoma. Cindy Carr, a member of Kiamichi Electric Cooperative, met Stevens when she signed up for swim training through the Triathlon Club of Oklahoma City. “Amanda is a huge encourager and a truly phenomenal athlete and coach,”

Carr said. “There are fi ve of us, all different ages and at different stages in our ability and she manages to take care of each of us perfectly and know the exact moment she needs to push us further in our training.” While Stevens isn’t quite ready to give up racing, she sees herself hanging up the running shoes sometime in the next few years and heading home. “We love Oklahoma and both of our families still live there,” said Stevens

who currently resides in Cave Creek, Az. “When I’m offi cially done with triathlons, whenever that is, we intend to move back for the next phase of our lives.” That phase includes plans to fulfi ll a particular vision of Stevens’. “Amanda’s Sports Mecca has changed a little through the years, but es- sentially it is a place for kids’ sports teams to practice,” Stevens said. “While the parents are waiting for their kids, I want to educate them on nutrition and wellness.” The Mecca will offer cooking classes that teach parents how to provide healthy meals for their families and a health and wellness program that provides group support as individuals learn about proper nutrition and exercise.

“I ride a roller coaster of successes and failures with a lot of lessons learned along the way,” Stevens said, “but at the end of the day I couldn’t be happier with the job I have.” - Amanda Stevens, Triathlete

“I want to help these families make

small choices that lead to a healthier lifestyle,” Stevens said. “If we eat the right things at the right time, maintain our stress levels and exercise—there are so many diseases that are not only preventable, but also curable.” With an impressive track record of success, the drive Stevens embodies will surely carry her over any fi nish line down the road. “The reason I do what I do is to encourage and inspire others—not only to follow their dreams and do what makes them happy, but also just to live a healthier life,” Stevens said. “If you can be happy and healthy, life is so much more enjoyable.”

Stevens continues to share her knowledge with the Triathlon Club of Oklahoma City.
