GOLDEN CASTINGS

The Olympics is one of the planet’s biggest and most famous sporting events. Castings, from big to small and prominent to

obscure, allow athletes to make the biggest memories at the Games. A MCDP STAFF REPORT

Shot Put Te shot put is one of the unique

sports in the Games–it tests athleticism, technique and brute strength. A staple of the Olympics, the sport has been in the Games since 1896. Te shot put itself can be made of cast iron, turned iron, steel, brass, or synthetic materials, and comes in multiple sizes and weights depending on the event and location. In the Olympics, men use a 16-lb. (7.26 kg) shot and women throw an 8.8-lb. (4 kg) shot. Outdoor competitions require metals at least as hard as brass, while indoor events need a shot made of plas- tic and a metal shell with metal pellets.
