Spartan Expanding, Honored by Toyota for Quality, Delivery Spartan Light Metal Products,
St. Louis, is expanding its facility in Sparta, Illinois. T e 90,000-sq. ft. expansion is
primarily for shipping, receiving and warehousing. T e targeted completion
date is February 2017. “T ese are exciting times for us,” said Ken Fehr, vice president, Sparta operations, Spartan Light Metal Products. “We are very proud of the success
of our employees and our company.” T e Sparta facility opened in 1961 and employs 650 people. Meanwhile, another Spartan facili-
lty was once again honored by a major automaker. Spartan Light Metal’s Hannibal,
Missouri, plant has been recognized for quality and delivery by Toyota for six consecutive years. T is year less than 5% of the supplier locations qualifi ed for this award and only a handful of suppliers have consecutive years’ recognition. T e plant was recognized with an
Excellent Quality Performance Award from Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America Inc. (TEMA). “Toyota collaborates with each of our supplier partners in order to build vehicles with the high quality, safety, and reliability standards that our customers expect,” said Robert Young, group vice president, TEMA purchas- ing, supplier engineering development, and cost planning. T is event high- lights our supplier partners’ commit- ment to continuous improvement and collaboration to build ‘ever better cars’ in North America. “We are pleased to recognize those in our supply base who exceed our high performance targets and thank them and their team members for their tremendous support and partnership.” Spartan is a supplier of aluminum and magnesium custom diecastings for the automotive and tooling industry, among others.
