Innovations on the Show Floor Exhibitors from all parts of the supply chain presented the latest

technological advances to help metalcasters make better castings. A MCDP STAFF REPORT

F

or four days in Min- neapolis, exhibitors displayed their new

technological developments to the industry. Held once every three years, CastExpo gives a benchmark of how metalcasting is advancing in terms of innovations in materials, equip- ment, tools and systems. From the beginning of the casting process to machining, all links of the supply chain were present on the show fl oor as metalcasters investigated potential new investments to help improve their casting processes. T ese improvements translate to

higher quality components as cast- ing buyers expand the possibilities of casting design, whether its a new sand binder that improves mold strength or an equipment update that increases production rates. Following are a few of the new innovations showcased at CastExpo this year.

Furnace System Control Inductotherm, Rancocas, New

Jersey, displayed its latest development in advanced diagnostics. T e new iSense Melt Shop Equipment Data Visualization System is a combination of network topology, communications

protocols, database and information servers connected through a graphi- cal user interface. Any equipment capable of communicating over industrial protocols can be tied to the iSense system. T is includes cooling and charging systems, power systems, process equipment and distribution equipment. All relevant data pertain- ing to the equipment is stored in one easy-to-access place—from parts lists, manuals and drawings to tutorial vid- eos, diagnostics and charts. And with the scaled down mobile app, iSense system users can check on the equip- ment anytime, anywhere.
