PACKAGING ROLLERS
Also new to Cosmogen’s Squeeze’N portfolio is the Squeeze’N Roll Dome, which is now available with a removable applicator and refill. Once the consumer’s tube is empty, they can remove the applicator and place it on a new tube before recycling the empty tube and refill cap. The Squeeze’N Pentaball, meanwhile, combines five mini-rollerballs in a drop shape applicator for a micro-massage that reaches all areas. A 30mm diameter version has been developed for the face and neck, while a 19mm option is said to be ideal for a micro-massage around the eyes; its small size also lends itself well to nomad products. Likewise deploying the use of multiple rollerballs in a single integrated applicator is HCP Packaging, which, as part of an exclusive partnership with Pum-Tech Korea, recently brought out a 3-Ball Applicator. The three stainless steel rollerballs simultaneously cool and massage as they glide smoothly over the skin and the pack is said to be especially suited to high viscosity, localised and targeted treatments, such as eye serums.
Another recent launch from HCP and Pum-Tech Korea is Ball-Spot Ampoule, which combines a push-button airless dispenser and a rollerball applicator.
“The push-button at the base releases formula consistently, accurately and hygienically, delivering the optimum dose of product directly to the skin in a few gentle swipes via the rollerball applicator,” says HCP Packaging’s Lu. By combining the rollerball with airless technology, “the pack also protects the formula from contamination or drying out, therefore, prolonging the shelf-life of the formula”, she adds.

Also focusing on the relationship between the applicator and the rest of the pack, the Roller-On Shut-Off Tube (RST) is described as being ideal for high-viscosity lotions and creams that are applied directly to the body or entire face, due to the larger surface area of the applicator and high capacity (60ml-120ml). “For a pack where convenience and portability are integral to its appeal, leakage must be eliminated; the RST is designed with an innovative overcap that automatically releases and locks the dispenser to avoid any mess or wastage of product, while also protecting the applicator from contaminants,” says Lu. “The ergonomics and flexibility of the tube are also key to allow the consumer to easily grip and squeeze the pack to dispense product on-the-go.”
ROLLING STONES During lockdowns, products offering massage as part of the skin care ritual were more popular than ever,

as Isabelle de Maistre, Head of Product Communication at Quadpack, noted at the time. “Home spa experiences are trending,” she said. “Using applicators to give yourself a face or body massage converts body care into a ritual and can bring your skin benefits like stimulating collagen or enabling lymphatic drainage. If they are made of smooth, natural materials, they can also add a cooling touch.”
In response to this trend, Quadpack introduced a line of gua sha massage tools and roll-on spheres made from jade and rose quartz, with more stones available on request. The company will also be adding to its standalone rollers line-up this year with the new Bamboo Studded Facial Roller and Rose Quartz Eye Contour Tool. The first combines a silicone- head massage tool with a bamboo handle, developed for use with serum to give the complexion a boost, while the Rose Quartz Eye Contour Tool soothes and cools, helping to reduce puffiness and combat eye bags. As for Anisa International, “when it comes to our roller design, we are focusing on natural materials such as stones, metals and plant-based products,” says Telwar Kaicker. “Our Beyond the Spa collection offers innovative design and interchangeable heads for both make-up and skin care application. We’ve done extensive research into the benefits of coffee, mushrooms, amethyst, jade, metals and other materials to provide brands with options to meet the unique needs of their consumers.”
When it comes to materials, Telwar Kaicker says a brand’s choice should depend on the result it wants, noting that cooling zinc alloy is ideal for skin care applications, while natural stones suit healing and calming skin care rituals
