HSC has also been gearing up for the inevitable demand for heating products throughout autumn and winter. “Although hirers have heaters in their fleets, as soon as very cold weather strikes, they contact us for more, so we have built up our stocks for next-day delivery. Our Elite electric quartz heaters always prove popular for use in a wide range of industrial and commercial locations, and this year we have added battery powered versions of Master propane fan heaters, to meet demand for products that can be used in areas without a convenient electrical supply. With the current very low price of diesel, we are also anticipating keen interest in heaters that run on this fuel.”


TCP continues to develop models powered by hydrogen fuel cells.


“BOC has also developed smaller cylinders that are as compact and easy to handle as bottled propane gas canisters, making the machines even easier to operate. We are building up a network of companies that are hiring and re-hiring these Ecolite versions, and more will be appointed as interest in the fuel grows. Demand will obviously remain for our traditional diesel-powered models, but we are expanding our hydrogen fuel range, including compact versions, road-tow and static versions, and a variant designed to be housed in a cabinet for semi-permanent installations.”


Growing demand has also led Hire Supply Co (HSC) to broaden its lighting portfolio. “Last year we offered eight different LED lighting models, now we have 26,” said MD Gary McWilliam. “The technology is getting better and better, with light outputs as good as traditional tungsten halogen products, and prices are lower. The lights last for up to 50,000 hours, meaning that the fabric of the unit will probably wear out before the lamp itself does, and they run cooler, which is an important safety benefit. Also, unlike a fluorescent light, they contain no potentially harmful gases. We know interest is growing because of the reaction the products get when we have displayed them at Executive Hire Road Shows this year.”


For specialist heater supplier, Arcotherm this year has already proved extremely busy. “It has been non-stop,” said Director Andy Gilman. “The cool summer weather meant that many marquee hirers serving the events industry were ensuring they had adequate heating in place. proportion of the year. In addition, we are serving an increasingly diverse customer base, such as commercial glasshouses and nurseries that need to maintain good growing conditions, as well as traditional construction clients.


“Hirers of marquees have also been widening their activities, with many meeting demand for temporary structures such as warehouse areas and additional workshop spaces in factories. These typically cover large areas and customers want to minimise the footprint of the heating equipment required, so the requirement for high-output models like our Jumbo and Phoen units is growing.”

Innovation is clearly evident in equipment for both the heating and lighting markets, enabling end users to benefit from greater efficiency, environmental advantages and reduced running costs. It also means that there are many opportunities for hirers who have the latest machines in their fleets.
