Clean up with Makita

Flood water is inevitably dirty and carries debris, and Makita’s

submersible electric pumps are designed to move water

containing solids of up to 35mm diameter. The PF1110 240V

model can deliver 250 litres per minute to a maximum head height of 10m, has a stainless steel body and is fitted with an 1100W motor, while the PF0410 has a capacity of up to 140 litres per minute and a 400W motor. Petrol powered models include the EW220R, which has a 4.3hp

four-stroke engine and is claimed to be able to draw water from as low as 8m and pump it up to at a maximum rate of 520 litres per minute through a 2in delivery hose. The EPH1000 is has a 1.45hp version of Makita’s low-emission MM4 4-stroke engine and delivers 130 litres per minute. For cleaning tasks, the manufacturer offers its AquaMak range. They incorporate motors with aluminium casings and Inox pistons, offer delivery pressures between 100 bar and 360 litres per hour flow rate for the compact HW101 model, and 140 bar maximum pressure and 500 litres per hour flow for the HW140.

Seddons’ Taskman pressure washer range includes the portable Mini Bowser Washer, which can be used in restricted areas where vehicle access is impossible. With its own water supply delivered via a 120-litre tank, it is powered by a Honda GX160 petrol engine providing water pressure of 2250psi at 8 litres per minute. The company offers pumps for drainage, flood defence and water transfer, and says the most popular models for the hire industry are 2in petrol-driven centrifugal, 3in diesel trash and 3in diesel diaphragm pumps. Demand is also reported to have grown steadily for 110V electric submersible

pumps and ‘puddle sucker’ units for domestic flooding situations. Spares and accessories are available, such as delivery and suction hoses. The flood restoration range also includes filtration systems for use in conjunction with pumps to remove contaminants that could otherwise pollute water. These include the Oil and Sediment Filter, which is connected with cable ties and can

be used repeatedly. It retains 20kg of sediment and 2.5 litres of oil.

The manufacturer says that, for effective drying, water vapour must be made airborne as efficiently as possible, and that, for optimum evaporation, the movement of air should be in direct contact with the surface being treated. The Velo low-profile air mover incorporates a fan that spins in the horizontal plane, rather than vertically, to enable the air flow to remain closer to the surface for longer, to give more effective drying.

Revolution from Dri-Eaz

The comprehensive Dri-Eaz range of products includes the Revolution LGR low humidity dehumidifier, which is described as half the size of traditional refrigeration models while being able to removed 63 litres of water over a 24 hour period. It is designed to adjust itself for optimum operation to achieve the required drying performance. Also available is the LGR 7000xli, which can extract 95 litres in 24 hours and has similar ‘intelligent’ controls.
