Skip Rats: Monte Carlo or Bust

Four intrepid explorers from Alan’s Skip Hire, a Chester based skip hire company, are celebrating conquering the infamous Monte Carlo or Bust Rally on behalf of Cheshire Young Carers.

Known affectionately as the Skip Rats, Andy White, Timmy Bailey, Vaughan Stokes (Cobbles) and Kerry Lloyd were one of a large number of teams that took part in the banger rally that stipulates that the car used must not cost more than £300 and ‘hopefully’ last the journey. Over the course of four

days, the team drove over 2000 miles in total, with the rally starting at Saint- Quentin in France and taking in sights such as Turin, Dijon and the Alps along the way, before finishing up at Monte Carlo in Monaco with a massive party put on for all the contestants who had survived the trip.

Speaking about the rally, Andy

White said: “It has been an amazing journey and we have had so much fun along the way. To be fair there are too many moments to mention, but overall we’ve had a blast. “I suppose, one of the

things that stands out was when you came across other contestants on the roads. These were always mad moments with plenty of shenanigans going on between cars and of course it goes without

saying that the lads and I are really happy to be doing this for such a worthwhile cause. “Will we do it again next year?

Of course we will and we would have no problems promoting others to enter as well. You’ll have fun, see some sights and raise money for charity. It’s a win-win.” Speaking of the team’s

achievement, Neil Hassall, managing director of Alan’s Skip Hire, said: “Everybody at Alan’s Skips is amazed the car survived as we all thought it had the potential to be a right old banger – only joking. “On a serious note

we are all immensely proud of the lads. They have done really well, not only in finishing the challenge, but for also raising money for a local charity, so hats off to them. It’s a fantastic achievement.”
