What was the best kit you ever bought? Trommel fines treatment plant
How has it improved your business? The installation of our trommel fines treatment plant has enabled us to divert 200 tonnes per week away from landfill. The aggregates and soils are being returned to the market free of charge. Further investment will enable us to return the product at a small fee.
Did it deliver a good return on investment? Definitely. Not only are we diverting from landfill, we are returning products such as soil and stone to the market at no cost. We are also retrieving scrap metals via the overhead magnet we installed. This is giving us a small weekly return on the investment.
How easy was it to train staff up on it? Training staff was relatively straightforward. The company who installed our plant provided on-site training and were on hand to answer any questions in the weeks following the installation.
Did you experience any teething problems? Yes, the final product was still showing a level of contamination that we found to be unacceptable. We worked with the suppliers to ensure we got the best possible fix. They performed some additional fixes to the density separator and air knives which resolved the problem.
How soon will it need replacing? I am hoping it will last over 20 years. With the level of maintenance schedule we have deployed, the plant should be delivering results for a very long time.
When it comes to replacing, will you stick to the same model, or look around for a different brand? If the plant lasts as long as we hope,
I would expect the industry to have made huge strides towards new technologies. We would therefore look to install the latest, most cost-effective solution available.
Would you recommend it to other skip hire companies? Yes, I would definitely recommend this to any company who are producing trommel fines. HMRC landfill tax is a huge worry for the industry. Any opportunity to divert from landfill should always be explored. This solution was perfect for us and would undoubtedly be a benefit to other recycling companies.
What lasting effects has the kit made to your company? The kit has enabled us to reduce our operational costs and increase our recycling rates. HMRC landfill tax was a major concern for us, but with the installation of the plant, we are able to return products to the market and reduce overall costs.
Does it affect the wider community? Diverting 200 tonnes per week away from landfill will ultimately have a positive effect on the environment. Reducing our costs also allows us to make further investments in other areas of the business that allows us to reduce our carbon footprint. It really is a win-win situation for the company and the environment.
