Naomi was drawn to O’Donovan after

seeing an article managing director, Jacqueline O’Donovan, wrote for a leading industry magazine, “I felt a real affinity with Jacqueline’s commitment and hands-on, proactive approach to tackling waste issues, so I got in touch to see if there was an opportunity to join the business and play a role in driving forward a company that is passionate about sustainability.” In her remit as environmental manager,

Naomi will be focusing on identifying certification opportunities that formally

recognise O’Donovan’s approach, as well as expanding upon the company’s initiative to continue to improve efficiencies and environmental performance across its operations, “With our

new site in Alperton reaching its final construction stage, I will be reviewing the processes already in operation to identify where these can be optimised to improve sustainability. I will also be looking for ways to expand our supply chain to ensure we maximise the potential of the materials we recycle and produce from waste.” The new appointment is the latest of a number

of steps the independent, family-run business has taken to make the company as environmentally friendly as possible, a commitment reflected in its FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) Gold Standard accreditation which has been achieved four years running. Jacqueline O’Donovan, managing director of

Dig & Shift Ltd invest in new RubbleMaster RM70Go & OS70Go Screen

Wirral based family run business Dig & Shift Ltd have been offering site clearance, grab hire and groundworks to the local area for over eleven years. Starting with one excavator back in 2004 owners Richard and Bruce Turner have continued to invest in the company and now boast a range of dumpers; excavators, skid steers and have most recently opened their own transfer station in Ellesmere Port offering quality recycled aggregates for sale. With the opening of the new premises

came the necessity for a compact tracked impact crusher which could be used in the yard to produce a high quality type 1 aggregate and also be easily transported to demolition sites for onsite C&D waste recycling when required. ECY Haulmark was approached by Richard after he had seen a RubbleMaster crushing at another yard in Wrexham. After hiring in a RubbleMaster RM80Go to trial the machines ability to produce the required product the decision was made to invest in a new RubbleMaster RM70Go for the new yard. Now having the ability to store and stock

pile large amounts of pure concrete and mixed construction waste Dig & Shift Ltd report they are recycling around 80 tonnes per hour using the RubbleMaster RM70Go. The pure concrete is being recycled into Type 1 MOT with the addition of the RubbleMaster OS20 screen. Richard reports that some of his customers actually prefer the Type 1 - 40mm to dust they can produce with the RM70Go and OS70Go combination to a newly quarried product, stating this combination is producing a cleaner end product and certified sub base than a traditional jaw rusher. The RM70Go is also producing a 6F2 for standard sub base at up to 120 tph. As well as being a registered waste carrier

Dig & Shift are subscribed to the waste protocols project, a joint venture between the environment agency and WRAP, which sets out clear steps that must be taken for waste to become a none waste product or material that can either be reused by business or industry or be supplied into other markets, enabling recovered products to be used without the need for waste regulation controls.
