COLD STORES

the better. It makes the installation much simpler, as the user is fully aware of what they are getting and we know that the best solution for that kitchen has been provided.

Having a dedicated, on the road sales force means that dealers are kept up- to-date with innovations and product releases. Dealers can utilise our sales force’s completely free-of-charge, no obligation site surveys so they know that when they receive our quote they can trust it as accurate. All of our team members are equipped with a detailed knowledge of our products and can offer efficient and detailed advice to our customers, making sure any issues are identified and taken care of as swiftly as possible. Often, for a customer, that peace of mind is priceless.

Technology

With the introduction of F-gas regulations, refrigerants are playing a big part. The industry has known this has been coming for a long time, so we’ve always aimed to be ahead of the game. Coldstores clearly use a lot of energy and by providing the highest specification with energy at its core, through low energy components and design, we can be confident that we’re considering our environmental credentials alongside cost savings for our customers. We design our range from the bottom up; there’s no benefit in having highly efficient insulation panels but a door with a gasket that doesn’t seal correctly. We know our customers have come to expect the best when they choose Foster Coldstores and we’re confident that our range gives them just that. Across the market, we are seeing a number of innovations that include internet connectivity of products which can monitor temperatures, as well as creative ideas such as more efficient condensing unit designs. In terms of upcoming developments, we pride ourselves on being innovative industry leaders and we are always developing our range to make sure we’re producing products that are in line with this. Sometimes it’s evolution, not revolution, that is needed in order to offer the best product out there. The continuing focus for outlets is going to be more and more on energy efficiency savings. This counts even when talking about just one independent restaurant, but when you consider a chain with a number of sites, you can then be looking at hundreds of thousands of pounds in energy savings. I believe that will be a real driver in product development.

Being able to give a customer a real feel of what they’re going to get, especially on a large investment such as a coldroom, is a really important tool. We live and breathe technical drawings and specifications, but technologies such as BIM and Revit drawings can help customers that aren’t as familiar with coldstore specifications. End users receive a 3D visual of what they’re actually paying for, down to the lights and shelf location. This sort of service is invaluable and I think these tools will quickly become more commonplace across all projects.

One development that’s being mentioned again and again is the ability to remotely monitor the coldstore via internet connectivity. This tool helps with diagnostic and stability checks as there are fixes we can make remotely that will enable the end user to be up and running in minutes, rather than them having to wait for a service engineer to travel to their outlet. Finally, alternative cooling methods are a significant area of development. We’ve seen energy change to a great extent; even 10 years ago, seeing a wind turbine was a rarity and now it’s a common sight. We’re investing heavily into researching other ways to keep coldstores cool. They constitute by far the greatest use of energy in most professional kitchens, so anything we can do to develop this technology is only a good thing.
