Star Refrigeration’s CPD roadshow receives great response

S

tar Refrigeration has received a great response to its forthcoming national roadshow this October, with a significant registration of interest.

The leading refrigeration and heating contractor asked large end users of cooling and heating systems which topics they would like to learn about and what issues affect their current solutions.

The company’s senior engineering experts will

tour the UK from 16-26 October 2017, hosting free daily CPD events in different locations, in order to raise awareness of the most common issues affecting the heating and refrigeration industry. In preparation for the event, Star Refrigeration has released the main topics to be included in the seminars: F-gas regulations, energy efficiency, natural refrigerants and regulatory updates. During registration, people have the chance to suggest other topics which would be helpful, and Star Refrigeration is currently collating the information and making sure the CPD sessions are useful for every single attendee. Dr Rob Lamb, group sales and marketing director, said: “We aim to address as many

refrigeration issues as possible to ensure attendees receive valuable practical information and have an all-round great experience. We’ve had over a hundred people already registering their interest and sharing with us their most worrying industry concerns.”

The roadshow events are expected to start at 8.30am with a morning breakfast followed by five CPD seminars throughout the morning. After the presentations, Star Refrigeration’s senior team will offer one-to-one sessions to attendees who request a place at the post-event surgery affair. Dr Lamb continued: “We’ve seen a lot of

recurring topics so we feel it is important to address these. From ammonia safety to plant maintenance, we’re going to cover key topics to help end users, consultants, facilities management and construction companies plan for the future. Attendees will also have the chance to book a one to one session with one of our senior team of experts after the seminars.”

When asked about the issues that concern them the most regarding their current heating or cooling solution and what they would like to learn more about, most prospective attendees indicated that

Opteon refrigerants gain new use approvals

G

lobal chemistry company Chemours has announced that the United States’ EPA Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) program has listed low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants Opteon XP44 (R452A), Opteon XP40 (R449A), and Opteon XP10 (R513A) as acceptable for use. The US EPA SNAP program supports the transition away from ozone-depleting compounds. OpteonXP44 (R452A) is now listed as acceptable for use in new and retrofit equipment for refrigerated transport and remote condensing units used in retail food refrigeration. In addition, the approval of Opteon XP40 (R449A) has expanded to include use in new and retrofit cold storage warehouse and industrial process refrigeration equipment. The EPA had

14 September 2017

previously listed XP40 as an acceptable refrigerant in several commercial and retail food refrigeration applications. Finally, the acceptable use of Opteon XP10 (R-513A) has been expanded to include use in new and retrofit residential dehumidifiers. Opteon XP10 is already acceptable for use in numerous applications, including chiller and retail food refrigeration applications.

Diego Boeri, vice president of Chemours Fluorochemicals, commented: “Our customers require us to be on the cutting edge of new technology so that they can meet the evolving challenges they face. These new EPA SNAP listings ensure that low GWP refrigerants by Chemours are available for applications our customers need.”

they were keen to more fully understand a range of subjects: ■ Legal compliance: ammonia safety, regulations, DSEAR;

■ F-gas phase down: timelines, replacement options, R404 & R507 phase out, natural refrigerants, low charge ammonia, HFOs and A2L refrigerants;

■ Heat recovery: waste heat from process cooling, waste heat from renewable sources, re- utilisation of waste heat and waste cooling for district networks;

■ Energy efficiency: energy savings, energy monitoring, CO2 reduction, CRC, latest technology available;

■ Plant reliability: maintenance, preventative maintenance, remote monitoring, condition based maintenance, vibration monitoring.

The national roadshow is catering to all end users and industry stakeholders. The conference is being shaped by those who will be attending. Dates and locations for the seminars will be announced very shortly as results are being collated to ensure all attendees have a suitable location close to them.

Strong growth for Ziehl-Abegg

Z

iehl-Abegg, a leading global company in the field of ventilation, control and drive technology, has posted a 12% sales increase in its first half year results for 2017, driving its sales figure to €268m. Total turnover for 2016 was €484m, with exports accounting for three quarters of that figure.

Positive developments in the fields of ventilation and drive technology have contributed towards this year’s result.

Peter Fenkl, chairman of the executive board, explained: ‘’Customers are taking to our energy-saving products extremely well in every market.’’ Ziehl-Abegg traditionally generates its growth organically. As an industrial company with a high degree of vertical integration, this poses a significant challenge, especially since the order intake has increased by 15% from 2016. Commenting on Ziehl-Abegg’s plans for the remainder of the year, Mr Fenkl continued: “We are looking forward to the inauguration of our new building for manufacturing energy-saving EC motors and fans.” The first machines are to be moved a few kilometres away to the production plant in the Hohenlohe Industrial Park by the end of the year. Ziehl-Abegg is expanding its Kupferzell plant in the Industrial Park, which is located directly on the A6 European main traffic artery. This will bring additional advantages in terms of logistics and delivery times. A total of €28m will be invested in buildings and modern machinery.
