of ‘little napoleon’ Fujitsu’s J-Series mini VRF

We like a history, a story, a sense of origin and the comfort of reliability. The knowledge that things are tried and tested, and that we are not the first to try it out. Fujitsu General first started producing air
conditioning systems in 1969, constantly evolving products matching demands of the time. With innovation and globalisation, we reached the UK in 1986. The foundations were in place to continue growing the Fujitsu product portfolio here, eventually launching the AirstageTM range of VRF in 2001. This year we are celebrating our J Series Mini VRF’s 15th birthday. This model was born from the market demanding VRF inverter technology to bridge the gap in capacity between what would have been our S-range modular VRF; starting at 22 kW and our then multi split range up to 12 kW. The J Series has stood the test of
time, providing the reliability and the story that we all crave, but at the same time, transformed itself into the effective, efficient, flexible model that we see today – The J-IIS. Standing originally as a single model, the
J-IIS range now consists of a 12 kW and 14 kW model as well as the original size of 15 kW. It’s face has been lifted with a modern design, much more accessible service entry and multiple piping routes, but keeping the charm of the first generation affectionately known as ‘Little Napoleon’. Designed for residential and small commercial applications, where control of individual areas is vitally important to suit comfort and save energy. It’s single fan chassis; small enough to be installed out of sight and quiet enough not to be heard. Compact and lightweight, this manageable product made
installers’ jobs much easier for manoeuvrability. These key features have remained critical in the application of a mini VRF and have transferred through the J Series generations, but with 10kg in weight lost along the way. If ‘Little Napoleon’ was to be part of the revolution of VRF, it needed to develop the tools to remain successful. A DC twin rotary compressor now replaces the original inverter scroll, improving efficiencies, especially during the low to mid operating frequency of its linear control. The minimum operating frequency of the compressor is now 10% of its maximum output. This means the largest 15kw model can control and regulate a single 2kw indoor unit without suffering from unnecessary efficiency loss, and omitting the dangers of low oil circulation, improving reliability. The original AC Fan motor has been replaced with a DC high efficiency, low noise improvement, able to maintain condensing temperatures through precise modulation. Regulating condensing temperatures accurately maintains perfect operation for the user in terms of cooling output, the operating costs of the system are reduced, and reliability increased. New technology expands the possibilities of system design.
Integrated electronic expansion
valves within the indoor units coupled with improved system control algorithms not only allow for a quicker installation in comparison to the original J Series, but also increases possible system dimensions.
