Adam Walker J&E Hall
&E Hall is a strong supporter of apprenticeships and runs an ever- developing programme. Adam’s brother Matt is an engineer at J&E Hall and recommended his younger brother for an apprenticeship. Adam was interviewed and appointed shortly after. After the usual inductions and briefi ngs, he was sent to customer sites under close supervision. There was no hiding place for Adam and we found he embraced his new environment. To everyone’s satisfaction and surprise, customers, engineers and sub- contractors assumed Adam was a young engineer. The assumption was made due to Adam’s willingness to learn, ability to retain information and attention to detail. This meant that Adam began his college training with a head start over his fellow students. Despite this advantage, Adam has always treated his college work as a crucial part of his development, allowing him to understand the theory behind his practice.

Jason Clark, curriculum manager, refrigeration at Grimsby College said: “Adam shows a high level of ability in both the academic and practical elements, but has really shone academically. Feedback from his employer refl ects this and clearly demonstrates that he is comfortable to operate independently but is not afraid to ask questions when appropriate.” Adam has already shown that use of his positive attitude has impressed key customers and his aptitude has attracted compliments from many areas. Craig Lenton, site engineering manager, Morrisons said: “I have been fortunate to work closely with Adam and have often relied upon him for help and advice. I fi nd him very approachable and keen to help and resolve issues. He is a valued and key member of our whole team and gets on with everybody. He is competent to carry out duties without guidance and close supervision. His time keeping and housekeeping never come into question and when the site needs the support he is always there and willing to lend a hand.”
