Verderflex’s Vantage 5000 dosing pumps take the P out of Fly Ash Run Off
The next generation, easy to use Verderflex Vantage 5000 peristaltic pump is already defining new standards in precision dosing and dispensing with flows ranging from a tiny 70 µl/min up to 6600 ml/min and at pressures up to 7 bar. It brings the additional benefits of reduced parts counts over other dosing technologies by eliminating extra ancillary equipment such as check valves and strainers and eradicating downtime caused by blockages, crystallisation and vapour locking.
leachate’s pH level for optimal flocculation. The two flocculant dosing pumps gently add KlarAid® or Polyfloc® coagulants to remove the residual phosphorous, avoid costly over-dosing and minimising re-treatment costs. Each pump is easily remotely controlled using simple 4 to 20mA signals with real time performance feedback and status alarms and the “drop-in” skid minimises on-site commissioning time.
When pumping flocculants peristaltic pumps have the advantage of a gentle, low shear pumping action which preserves the flocculant particle size and helps to minimise chemical usage and over-dosing impacts. These benefits are demonstrated by a major American power plant’s use of 3 compact, IP66 and NEMA 4X rated Verderflex Vantage 5000 pumps on a single “drop-in” skid system to treat coal fly ash run off water and neutralise high phosphorus (P) residual levels. The first pump precisely doses Calcium Chloride (CaCl2
) to raise the
on-board storage of up to 30 dosing programs allowing seasonal adjustments to made in seconds by recalling jobs from memory.
Often such sophisticated dosing technologies come at the expense of complex controls. The easy to use Vantage 5000 pumps, however, are set up in seconds using the pump’s state of the art colour touch screen display and its intuitive icon-based menus supported by user selectable languages.
Treating leachate is influenced by a very irregular variable, the weather. In the unlikely situation when the pumps’ 4000:1 speed resolution is not sufficient to cover the required dosing range, simply changing the size of either the loose tubing or the dedicated tube assemblies can further increase or decrease the maximum flow rate to cope with changing seasons. Such seasonality can easily be managed as each pump has an

For many industrial and municipal users, operational security and disaster recovery procedures are increasing concerns but not with the Vantage 5000. Every pump has its own USB backup port allowing the user to save the pump’s settings, its programs and regularly download the pump’s operational history, each event time stamped using the pump’s own real time clock. This facility not only allows system settings to be copied to other pumps, saving on pump commissioning time but gives users the ability to take a complete back-up as a core element of a disaster recovery program. However, such powers must be secure against unauthorised access and for security every Vantage 5000 has multi-level password access controls.
All Vantage 5000 pumps have the options to run continuously or to reliably dose a single volume or to operate on a batch basis with cyclical repetition of a pre- defined numbers of the same dose. These actions can be initiated from remote

controllers such as footswitches or using the pump’s own controls. In this instance, the Vantage 5000s are operated using 4 to 20mA signals, one of a range of industry standard analogue controls supported by the Vantage 5000’s remote control versions that also include 0-10V and frequency inputs and 7 volt free control inputs & 4 user configurable outputs.
As systems become larger then increasingly digital control options become more beneficial and the Vantage 5000’s digital control models can operate under such as MODBUS®, PROFIBUS® & RS485 protocols. Recognising the rising importance of Industrial Internet of Things or IIOT, the latest Vantage 5000 model includes wireless remote monitoring using the Verderflex App.
