OFF THE WALL! When it comes to creating inspirational learning spaces, don’t hit a brick wall – make your brick walls a hit! East eld Community Pre-School saw their plain playground transformed with a colourful mural (pictured), thanks to their local Community RePaint scheme. Run by not-for-pro t organisations across the UK, the schemes collect reusable, leftover paint from manufacturers, retailers and recycling centres, and distribute it to those in need. Programme Coordinator Sarah Burns said, ‘Once a group has decided on a design, they nd that they need to buy a whole range of colours, the cost of which soon adds up. This is where Community RePaint can really help, as we supply a whole range of colours to good causes for a minimal cost.’ There are currently over 75 schemes running across the UK, and in 2015 over 337,000 litres of paint was redistributed. Schools can purchase paint for as little as £2 per litre. To nd your nearest scheme, visit

SPICE UP YOUR SCHOOL GARDEN
The #GROWYOUROWNCURRY campaign is encouraging green- fingered pupils to start their own gardening club and grow curry ingredients from scratch. Launched this year by the
British Curry Club, the campaign is keen to introduce children to
dishes and cuisines from all over the world, to help develop cultural awareness. As part of the launch, 830 schools were selected to receive packs of seeds and asked to promote the initiative on their school website and social media pages. The response has been fantastic, so much so that the campaign will be expanding next year to provide seeds to all schools that register. Recipe ideas, classroom resources, geography-based activities and more will also be included. The new resources will be available from February 2017, but schools can register their interest now by emailing
rosena@britishcurryclub.co.uk. For more information, visit

HIT THE RIGHT NOTES Snappy Operas is a nationwide project that encourages pupils aged seven to 11 to perform one of ten specially-created ten-minute operatic works. Schools in 10 selected regions are invited to take part in Snappy Operas this year, with the scheme opening up to all schools by 2018. To find out more, visit

THANKS FOR SHARING! Cut costs and generate income with Borroclub, an innovative online platform that promotes the borrowing and lending of resources. Schools can upload items or browse the products made available by others – from theatre props to office supplies. Borroclub creator Matt Dredger told us, ‘The beauty is that people can try out a product before they invest. Or avoid costly purchases altogether by borrowing an item just for the short time it’s needed!’ Lending is easy, too – simply state how much you want to charge per day (plus a security deposit) and list your items free of charge.
