AVOID PROCUREMENT PITFALLS, DISCOVER HOW YOUR SCHOOL CAN CUT COSTS, AND WIN EXCITING NEW RESOURCES

CASE STUDY: BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE – WITH A TWIST

‘With technology so integral to the lives of this generation, we felt it was important to complement traditional teaching and learning methods with online tools. While some students have access

to all manner of technology at home, others aren’t so fortunate. To create a level playing  eld, we decided to invest in an iPad for every student. These devices were to be kept by students for use at home and in school. This was three years ago and has been so successful that we’ve just upgraded, taking delivery of 1,000 new iPads! When your purchasing point

nears the £250,000 mark, a whole new level of bureaucracy kicks in. On the recommendation of another school, we instructed YPO to manage the procurement process. This gave us the reassurance that, not only would we get the best value for money, but all the red tape would be taken care of, too.

Cover for loss and damage was built into the tender, as well as robust hard cases and screen protectors. Once the iPads arrived, we set up restrictions and security  lters to ease any parents’ concerns. The iPads have enabled students to access the many online tools that complement classroom learning, easily communicate with teachers between lessons, and access Powerpoint  les, making revision more ef cient. We’re providing 21st century tools for 21st century learners and the impact is obvious.’ Phil Jones, IT Manager, Pool Academy, Cornwall (904 pupils)
