distance of the English Channel, six times over, totalling a whopping 126 miles and raising £5,500 in sponsorship! The children are also helping to sell our ‘SOS – save our swimming pool’ wristbands. The class that sells the most will win an hour’s fun swim during school time. As well as this, we’ve raised £1,475 so far
through crowdfunding, and while this only amounts to 5% of our overall target, using the platform and social media has been a good way to promote the appeal and keep people updated. We are running the campaign for three months, and it’s proved particularly useful for people who want to make donations but are not directly connected with the school, such as former pupils. The PTA has given £2,853 from the proceeds

ur swimming pool is a massive asset to our school and community, but has had very little work done since being built.
As such, we set ourselves the target of raising £27,000 to fund refurbishments – replacing tiles and re-grouting the pool, redecoration, and resurfacing the area around the pool. We are also aiming to raise money to have the pool deepened by 40cm, so pupils can continue their swimming lessons up to Year 6 and learn lifesaving skills. The pupils have raised money by completing a sponsored swim – collectively swimming the
of the Christmas fair and Easter activities. And myself and a member of the lunchtime team will be doing a sponsored skydive this term! The appeal has been featured regularly in the local press and in our bi-weekly newsletters to parents. When I started the fundraising I was worried
that I had taken on a project that was too large for the time I had available, however, I have found that this has made me really push to get the appeal into the public eye.So far we have raised just over £23,500 and hope that the remaining funds can be made up at our summer fair. It has been a great experience, and the support from teachers, pupils and parents has been incredible. I am so proud of what we have achieved so far, and to be part of such a great team.’ Ria Laws, Finance Manager, Moordown St John’s CofE Primary School, Bournemouth (413 pupils)
