USA | Domestic Sales League Table 2016

While the US market continues to be dominated by a handful of domestic players, there has also been a steady increase in outside companies looking to make inroads into this lucrative market

More than 85% of the 1,800 US banks are less than $5 billion in asset size or less than 50 branches, making it a highly segmented market. A primary and key implication of this being the proliferation of domestic players, and their continued dominance of the market. Given that most US solutions continue on with ageing mainframe-based solutions, international players from outside the country such as Infosys, Misys, SAP, TCS and Temenos are looking to chip their way in. In the meantime, domestic players

have also been active with inorganic growth – the FIS acquisition of Sungard and D+H acquisition of Fundtech last year reflecting the spirit of consolidation. The US market, and FIS in particular, are not new to M&A. FIS had invested in Alltel, earlier in 2003, who had previously acquired System- atics. Similarly, Sanchez, who had earlier acquired Profile, saw itself being bought by FIS. At this point it should be noted that the big game changers were, of course, the acquisition of Metavante by FIS in 2009, and the aforementioned Sungard deal.
