MBNA an early Samsung Pay mover in UK
MBNA is set to be among the first wave of card firms offering Samsung Pay to its customers in the UK. Ian O’Doherty, CEO of MBNA, says: “Our customers are looking to MBNA as the credit card experts to deliver handy new ways to pay – ways that offer them convenience, speed and safety. We’re investing in delivering our customers Samsung Pay at the earliest opportunity, showing how we’re helping make life easier
for them.” Samsung recently announced that, six
months on from launching in South Korea and the US, its mobile payment service had hit five million registered users and processed around $500 million; pretty good going for a new fangled solution. Along with the UK (set to join the fray this year), it is now eyeing roll-outs in China, Spain, Brazil, Australia and Canada.
It has struck a deal with UnionPay, the
main credit card provider in China, and has extended a partnership with MasterCard overseas, which will allow Samsung Pay us- ers in Europe to activate debit, credit, and reloadable prepaid cards on the former’s payments platform. Visa and American Express are also onboard, along with other major networks.
Scott Thompson Tech Mahindra joins Nationwide’s IT ecosystem
Tech Mahindra has been selected by Na- tionwide Building Society to provide net- work and infrastructure transformation ser- vices in a five year deal. This underpins Na- tionwide’s transition to a next generation banking platform, connecting its UK retail operations, comprising around 700 branch- es and providing services to more than 15 million customers. Tech Mahindra’s team will work in a
partnership model with the building soci- ety’s ecosystem of telecommunications providers, services vendors and allianc- es. Debra Bailey, CIO of Nationwide Build- ing Society, says: “I am delighted to wel- come Tech Mahindra as a new IT partner to Nationwide. We have been impressed by the expertise Tech Mahindra have demon- strated during our commercial process. I am looking forward to seeing the impact they will make as they become a vital part of the Nationwide IT team.”
