IBS Journal March 2016
Who| The leaders
About 50% of the 154 new universal banking system sales made in 2015 remained with the top three players. The leadership position was retained by Temenos (34), followed by Oracle (28) and Infosys (16). Industry observers will note this to be a significant factor, as it not only indicates that these players have broadly retained their market share, but more importantly they continue to be the preferred supplier of choice for global banks. Although one should also note that both TCS (11) and SopraDelta-Bank (11) are equally poised in fourth position. Temenos had most of its deals in
Central/South America, and in Africa with 14 sales in these two continents. Kenya alone saw four of the seven deals signed last year in that market go the way of Temenos. While the supplier had only three deals in its home territory of Europe, it did include a big win with Nordea. In sharp contrast, Oracle seems to have consolidated its position in Asia, with 18 deals in this region. There was considerable success for the supplier in the Islamic space, with two sales each in Africa and Asia. Infosys saw half of its deals come
a hosted model was made in Norway. Trust Systems saw three of its deals come from Africa, Probanx had two European deals, and one sale each in Asia and the Middle East. All of these were on a hosted basis. Both SAP and Sword Apak had two of their respective deals come from Europe. A new entrant to the IBS SLT, Miles Soft- ware takes the top position in the private and wealth management space with seven deals, followed by Profile (six) and Avaloq (five). It is important to note here, that when it comes to wealth and fund management solutions, many of the above suppliers have had a significantly higher number of sales to asset management companies which have not been included as part of the SLT, as this is limited to banks and investment banks as reflected in the
above data. There has been a significant increase in
the sales of lending systems, from 11 deals in 2014 to 25 in 2015. This is also reflective of the increased focus of banks on best-of- breed lending solutions, with a specialised application. SAP- Loans Management takes the top rank in the lending solutions space with nine deals, followed by Misys- Fusion Banking lending with six. Both
Nucleus-Finnone and Intellect-Lending share the third position with five each. It is important to note that Nucleus was number one last year, with an even lesser number (four).
Most of the lending system sales have
come from North America, Mexico alone accounted for five deals, and all of them went the SAP-Loans Management way. Misys-Fusion Banking Lending had success in the US market with four of its six sales last year, and the balance from Africa. While Nucleus had three of its deals in Asia, Intellect-Lending saw all its five deals come from the Middle East market.
Islamic deals:Africa on the move
There was a significant increase in this area last year. From a total of 13 sales in 2014, the number of Islamic deals went up to 19 last year. And more importantly, only 68% of these were universal banking, while the
Islamic Deals
balance was equally distributed between wholesale, retail and private banking. While the Middle East contributed
to a third of the Islamic deals, the African market accounted for 37%. Europe had a
single deal with Aman Bank while the rest were in Asia.
