JOSEPHIDES ABTA CHAIRMAN
NOEL “Members do a
great job, resolving issues quickly and eff iciently”
LEADER Keeping the Code
You may have heard one of our spokespeople on Radio 4’s You and Yours last month, discussing TUI and Thomas Cook. The programme debated that over the last two years, both companies have been in front of the ABTA Code of Conduct commit ee on more occasions than any other Member. We pointed out that when seen against a
background of the millions of passengers that each company takes away every year, the number of cases is very, very small. However, it also gave us a chance to highlight the key role that the Code plays in identifying potential problems and helping Members to address them where they occur. Packages are complicated and situations
can and do occur — but, in the vast majority of cases, ABTA Members and our suppliers do a great job, resolving issues quickly and effi ciently. I think this came across well.

One of the early booking success stories for summer 2017 has been the resurgence of Greece. It’s Thomas Cook’s single bestselling destination for summer this year and Kuoni is reporting a 30% increase in bookings. It’s hard to overstate the value of travel
and tourism in providing employment and bringing much needed money into the economies of countries whose traditional industries are struggling. This is certainly the case in Greece and I know there’ll be an extra special welcome in store for those UK holidaymakers who travel there this summer.
