TRENTINO AND SOUTH TYROL Ideal age: Teenagers.
What’s great about it? The South Tyrol feels like a part of Austria — which it was, until the First World War . German is widely spoken and the food is miles from the ‘Italian norm’, with specialities including strudel. There’s typically Tyrolean scenery, but it’s also easy to plot cycling routes that are mainly flat. Several companies offer e-bikes to help power young or old legs uphill.
La Villa, Alta Badia, South Tyrol. Previous page: St Peter’s Square, Vatican City. Left from above: Dolomites, South Tyrol; Trevi Fountain, Rome; Puglia, Lecce district
