hotel reviews Z CITY, LONDON
The Z City hotel is in Temple, an ideal location for both tourists and business travellers. My fourth-floor room is small but exceptionally well-thought-out with clever spaces to put things. Frosted glass doors conceal the bathroom, sleekly black with excellent shower. The details are good: huge, thick white towels, a
powerful Babyliss hairdryer, mint tea, Cadbury’s hot chocolate and bottled water are all provided. Wi-fi is complimentary. Downstairs is the perky Zest Café, where free
(excellent) cheese and wine is served every evening between 5-8pm. It’s a bright, simple well-located option for those
who want to stay in London on a budget, but don’t want to give up the extras that come with a good hotel. Jo Fletcher-Cross
KEMPINSKI CORVINUS, BUDAPEST
In a city of rugged architecture and Ottoman-era spas, Kempinski Corvinus is a modern, glass-adorned construction overlooking Elizabeth Square. The location is unbeatable for exploring the city and there are three metro lines nearby. My Deluxe Room on the seventh floor is light,
spacious and pleasantly quiet, despite facing Vaci Street, the main shopping thoroughfare. To wind down, I head to the spa. I put on a headset
playing calming, twinkly music, before taking a dip in the small pool overlooking Budapest. Breakfast is served at ES Bisztro, a vibrant
Hungarian-Viennese bistro which feels less luxury- hotel restaurant, more kooky neighbour’s kitchen. The hotel also has an outpost of the world-famous Nobu restaurant chain. Farida Zeynalova
WASHINGTON HILTON
This heritage-listed hotel opened back in 1965. Its sleek concrete lines mark it out as a mid-century classic and it’s in the up-and-coming Adams Morgan sector of Washington with a commanding position on a hill overlooking the city. It’s a 15-minute stroll to the Dupont Circle Metro Station. Inside, the standard no-nonsense Hilton decor
predominates. Rooms are clean, simple and elegant. There’s a big chair and ottoman for relaxing, a desk for working and a large, comfy bed. The bathroom is welcoming with a decent-sized bath and various mood lighting options. Check-in and concierge service was friendly and
warm. McClellan’s Sports Bar is a fun place for a drink — especially around 6pm when office workers driſt in. Christopher Beanland
